Jailed Kriss Donald killer loses human rights damages claim

A MURDERER has been refused an award of damages for being held in segregation for more than four years.

Imran “Baldy” Shahid, 35, was convicted of the racially-motivated killing in 2004 of Glasgow teenager Kriss Donald. Shahid claimed in a civil action at the Court of Session in Edinburgh that his human rights had been breached by being kept in isolation for such a long time.

However, Lord Malcolm said that segregation had been for Shahid’s own safety as he was the target of other inmates who branded him “a beast” and wanted to exact revenge.

Shahid and his brother, Zeeshan “Crazy” Shahid, and Mohammed Faisal “Beck” Mushtaq were convicted of snatching Kriss Donald, 15, from the street near his home in Pollokshields. In a “brutal and sadistic” attack, the teenager was stabbed 13 times and set alight while still alive. The three men were all jailed for life.
