Jail for man who brandished potato peeler

A MAN has been jailed after threatening a relative with a potato peeler.

Antonio Coyle, 30, went to David Robertson's flat in North Junction Street with another man and attacked him, punching him and brandishing the kitchen utensil at him.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, Coyle pled guilty to assaulting Mr Robertson to his injury and "presenting" the peeler during the incident on July 13 this year.

Depute fiscal Ruth Ross-Davies said: "Mr Coyle presented a potato peeler at Mr Robertson, he put that away and continued to punch him."

After Coyle and his partner fled the scene, Mr Robertson flagged down a passing police car. Officers took him to hospital where he was given two stitches for a one centimetre cut on his left side.

Sheriff Isabella McColl sentenced Coyle to eight months for the attack.
