It's Hearts v Hibs in the Jarvis household

THEY have played football together since they were just a few years old and recently helped their school team rise to victory.

But when it comes to playing professionally, Lewis and Jason Jarvis will be on opposite sides of the pitch.

Lewis, 12, has signed a pro-youth contract with Hearts, while his younger brother Jason, 10, has a similar arrangement with arch rivals Hibs.

The Musselburgh siblings are rising stars, after having both Edinburgh teams after each of them, as well as Rangers and Celtic.

But the big decision of which team to sign for wasn't easy for the boys – even though they are both Hibbies.

In the end, Jason went for Hibs, though his brother controversially opted for the Tynecastle side.

Their mother, Jay Jarvis, from Campie Gardens, said: "It was a bit of a surprise when Lewis chose Hearts because we are all Hibbies.

"But it was totally their own decisions.

"I was delighted that one of them chose Hibs because I'm a Hibby, but I was being a parent first and foremost and let them make their own minds up.

"Lewis is a Hibs fan but is more than happy to play for Hearts and is always in his Hearts tracksuit.

"The minute he pulls on his shirt, his loyalty is with Hearts.

"Lewis played for Hearts against Hibs and I supported Hearts because that's the team my son is on."

The brothers were originally spotted by talent scouts when they were playing for Musselburgh Young Stars on Saturdays and Musselburgh Windsor BC on Sundays.

Jason, who is going into P7 at Campie Primary School after the holidays, trained with Celtic from when he was seven up until just before his tenth birthday and was also scouted by Rangers, Hearts and Hibs during that time.

Mrs Jarvis, 39, said: "He was going round the four of them playing football but just before you turn ten you have to make a commitment to one team and he chose Hibs.

"His brother was picked up with Hearts when he was eight and was also scouted for Hibs.

"From the age of five, they have both played in the Edinburgh League on a Sunday.

"They just couldn't get enough football.

"It's a long time to get to the top but they are heading in the right direction.

"They both have good goal-scoring abilities and helped their school win the East Lothian Cup, where they beat a rival school in Musselburgh.

"My eldest son Jake plays on a Sunday so there are no free days from football in the Jarvis house."

Lewis, who will start at Musselburgh Grammar School after the holidays, is a defensive midfielder and is in his third season training and playing at Hearts.

Jason, an attacking midfielder, is in his second season at Hibs.

Mrs Jarvis, a paralegal with Allan McDougall & Co, solicitors, added: "We are all Hibs season-ticket holders and go as a family.

"Lewis tries to say that he supports Hearts too but I know deep down he's a Hibby.

"We have had situations where Lewis has had to change out of his Hearts shirt in the back of the car on the way to a Hibs game."

Jason's idol is Lionel Messi of Barcelona, but inspiration comes closer to home for Lewis whose hero is Hearts Academy player, Jason Holt.
