Italian job drives David to women's golf clothing deal

AN EDINBURGH businessman who secured the UK's only distribution rights for upmarket Italian sportswear brand Conte de Florence has further reason to celebrate.

Conte de Florence was selected as the official clothing sponsor for the Women's British Open at Carnoustie, which finished yesterday.

David Laing, who leases a shop in Jeffrey Street, is the only distributor of Conte de Florence in the UK. The original shop is in Florence.

The Royal Bank of Scotland provided support to set the shop up in August last year. Business is going well, with Mr Laing now considering expanding and securing further outlets across Scotland.

RBS business manager Angela Tunnah said: "David has shown persistence and determination to get the business up and running.

"We are conscious of the role new business start-ups can play in the economic recovery and we would encourage budding entrepreneurs to come and speak to us about their plans."
