Islands' weekly newspaper to close

ONE of two weekly newspapers on Orkney is to close, with the potential loss of nine jobs.

Orkney Today staff were given the news at a meeting in Kirkwall yesterday. The paper, owned by Orkney Media Group, began in 2003, providing competition to The Orcadian for the first time in 42 years. The firm blamed falling advertising income and a drop in circulation for the closure, set for December.
