Island candidate sought to dig in

AN ARCHAEOLOGIST is being sought to work on the remotest part of the British Isles.

The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) is offering the "rare" chance to work on the archipelago of St Kilda. The person will split their time between the "spectacular" World Heritage Site and Inverness.

Their duties will include monitoring archaeological remains, working with volunteers and visitors, updating records, producing reports and undertaking research. The job advert says candidates must be "capable of living and working in a remote environment and, on occasion, working alone".

It adds that the role requires "considerable crossing of remote, rugged terrain in all weathers".

St Kilda lies 41 miles west of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides.

Its islands form what the NTS describes as the most important seabird breeding station in north-west Europe.
