Ireland's finest take world piping crown

More than 53,000 people turned out to see Ireland's St Laurence O'Toole crowned the World Pipe Band Champions.

The annual contest, held on Glasgow Green, saw Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band from Northern Ireland take second place. Some home cheer was provided by Scotland's Boghall and Bathgate pipe band from West Lothian, which took third spot in Saturday's event.

Other winners included:

Grade 2 World champion: 1 Ravara, 2 Grampian Police, 3 Bagad Brieg.

Grade 3A World champion: 1 St Finbar's, 2 Cottown, 3 Cullen.

Grade 3B World champion: 1 Geoghegan Memorial, 2 Quinn Memorial, 3 Black Raven.

Grade 4A World champion: 1 Gransha, 2 Moneygore, 3 Stamperland.

Grade 4B World champion: 1 Upper Crossgare, 2 Portlethen & District, 3 Tullintrain.

Grade 4 Novice Junior World champion: 1 Oban High School, 2 Inverary & District, 3 George Watson's College.
