Investigation launched after Somalian man racially abused on Edinburgh bus

POLICE are investigating after Somalian man was subjected to racist abuse on a city bus.

The 33-year-old victim boarded the No.3 bus on Gorgie Road around 4.45pm on Monday and went to sit on the top deck.

During the journey a man began making racist and offensive remarks towards him and another man.

Two young women, who were also on the top deck, challenged the suspect on his behaviour before he got off on Calder Road opposite the BP garage.

Officers are now carrying out local enquiries to identify the male and are urging witnesses who can assist with their investigation to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, mid to late twenties with a medium build, brown hair and a long face. He was wearing a dark blue baseball cap, green t-shirt, blue jacket, jeans, white shoes and was carrying a white plastic bag.

A police spokesman said: “The disgraceful actions of the suspect were very upsetting for the victim and another male passenger who was on the bus.

“We would like to speak to the young women who challenged the male as well as any other passengers who may be able to assist us in identifying him.

“Similarly, the second passenger who was also affected by the racial abuse is also asked to get in touch and discuss the incident with us.”
