Inverness man detained after ‘gunshot’ reports

A man has been detained by police investigating reports that gunshots were fired in a city street.

Armed officers were sent to the scene of the incident in Mackay Road, Hilton, Inverness around 1.10pm today.

No one was injured but police erected a cordon and urged local people to stay away from the area.

Pupils from the nearby Cauldeen Primary School who live in Mackay Road were initially kept at the school but were later allowed home.

Police said a man has been detained in connection with the incident and asked anyone with any information to contact them on 101.
