A spokesman for the Procurator Fiscal in Inverness has confirmed the office has received a report from Police Scotland regarding the incident.

He added: “The report remains under the consideration of the fiscal.”

A spokesman for Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC said the club did not wish to comment at this stage.

Mr Foran, from Dublin, joined Inverness from Southend in January 2009. He replaced Grant Munro as club captain in 2010 and was part of the team which won the First Division title that season.

The midfielder is a former Republic of Ireland youth international. He played in the Inverness side’s opening league game last weekend, helping the team win 3-0 at home over St Mirren. He is in Terry Butcher’s squad for the trip to Dundee United this weekend.
