Inverclyde street attack leaves man badly injured

Police seek information on five male attackers, who left man with serious head and facial injuries

The attack happened after the 33-year-old man and 35-year-old woman got out of a taxi in St John’s Road in Gourock, Inverclyde at 1.30am this morning, police said.

An ambulance took the man, who has serious injuries to his head and face, to Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

Detective Inspector George McAllister said: “Our inquiries are at a very early stage and we are trying to establish the timeline of events that concluded in these two people being assaulted, one of them seriously.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who lives in the St John’s Road area and who may have heard the altercation and witnessed it to come forward to police.

“We’re continuing efforts to trace the taxi driver who dropped the couple off in the street, as he may have information that could assist us.”

The group of five men are said to be in their early-20s.
