Intruder threatened to slit throats of two students

AN ARMED intruder who threatened to slit the throats of two students in their Edinburgh home in a terrifying incident in which they were bound has been locked up for six years.

Olufemi Olumide told Christina Robbie and Brett Dorrans: “If you don’t want to go into witness protection then you won’t call the police.”

He then told them: “Judging by what I’ve done today I’ll probably get three to five years but in Scotland I’ll be out in two.” He forced the pair to put their valuables into a bag. Lady Clark of Calton ordered that Olumide be on licence for a period of three years after he is released from custody.

Olumide, 32, of Edinburgh Prison, admitted assaulting and robbing Ms Robbie, 24, and Mr Dorrans, 23, on 21 April this year at a flat at Gardiners Crescent, Edinburgh.

He also pled guilty to breaking into a flat in the city’s Gibson Terrace five days later.

Advocate depute Michael Stuart told the court that Olumide had an extensive criminal record.

Defence solicitor advocate David Allan said: “He has asked me in open court to apologise to the victims in both charges – he can see in the cold light of day that this must have been a terrifying ordeal for them and he accepts custody is inevitable.”
