Interpreter's breach of trust

A REGISTERED interpreter received a suspended jail term after committing a "serious breach of trust" in allowing an illegal immigrant to translate tapes seized in a counter-terror raid.

Noor Mohammad, 30, was impersonated by an unqualified Pakistani national on the run from the authorities for outstaying his student visa.

The illegal immigrant, Mian Ahmed Jan, 27, visited Greater Manchester Police headquarters six times.

Mohammad, of Bradford, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to four months in jail, suspended for 12 months, He was also ordered to perform 100 hours of unpaid work.
