International briefs: Germany

A MINT-condition sheet of ten stamps portraying screen icon Audrey Hepburn smoking is expected to fetch at least £350,000 at a charity auction in Berlin.

The German Postal Service printed 14 million of the stamps in 2001, depicting the actress as Holly Golightly in the classic film Breakfast At Tiffany's. But after Hepburn's son Sean Ferrer refused to grant copyright, all but a few sheets were destroyed. Two-thirds of the cash raised will go to the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund, and one-third to Unicef in Germany.
