Insulting sultan TV series rapped

Turks are furious over a new television series they believe depicts a revered Ottoman sultan in a bad light, and the government has promised to respond to the complaints

Deputy prime minister Bulent Arinc yesterday said the government would act "within the framework of the law" following an outcry over The Magnificent Century, a drama that portrays the 16th-century rule of Suleyman the Magnificent.

The series shows him in his harem and apparently consuming alcohol, which is banned under Islam.
