Inspiring yacht completes first stage of world race

The Edinburgh Inspiring Capital has arrived in Madeira at the end of the first stage of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

The team, including Evening News journalist Sue Gyford, crossed the line outside of Quinta Do Lorde Marina at 1.47pm local time finishing race one in tenth place.

Line honours went to Gold Coast Australia, who came out victorious following a two-way battle for supremacy with Visit Finland, and New York completed the podium line- up by finishing in third place.Shortly after Edinburgh Inspiring Capital pulled alongside in the marina, the team's skipper, Gordon Reid, said, "It was fantastic, a real blast. The guys have performed really well and they've definitely got into the groove and just can't wait to get going with the next race.

"I've been impressed every day with the crew - their basic seamanship skills are second to none and they're working really hard"
