Inmate faces life sentence

A VIOLENT inmate who lashed out at a prison officer with a homemade weapon after he was challenged over smoking in a communal area has been told he could face a life sentence.

David Hollywood attacked Stephen McNelly with a toothbrush handle with a blade melted into it at Saughton Prison on February 27 last year.

Hollywood, 42, was on remand at the time, waiting to be dealt with for a string of assaults.

Advocate depute Michael Meehan said the Crown wanted a risk assessment report made, which can lead to an Order for Lifelong Restriction.
