Inmate dies at Saughton

AN INMATE at HM Prison Edinburgh has died just days after being sentenced.

Phillip Saffrey, 43, was remanded in custody on July 12 from Edinburgh Sheriff Court for offences related to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Customs and Excise Act 1979.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed that he died in the prison on July 15. Police and next of kin have been informed and a fatal accident inquiry will be held in due course.
