British Transport Police said they wanted to make sure revellers enjoyed their celebrations, by cracking down on antisocial behaviour.

Inspector Sue Maxwell said: "There are also those who may drink a bit too much. Please be responsible and remember that rail staff are there to help you, not to be abused in any way."

She added: "It would also be remiss not to remind people to prepare for the cold conditions and dress appropriately."
