Implant alert call to MSPs

A WOMAN who suffered serious illness as a result of silicone breast implants has urged the Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of the dangers.

Mairi Johnston has petitioned the parliament as part of her campaign to highlight the health hazards of breast augmentation using silicone. She required 14 operations as a result of receiving the implants.

MSPs yesterday said they would call on the government to produce up-to-date guidance for doctors and women on the risks of silicone.

Ms Johnston is also seeking a ban on silicone implants and a review of the three-year time bar rule for medical injury.
