Immunisation 'greatest health success of last century'

Vaccines already save the lives of around 2.5 million children every year but the charity Save the Children says they have the potential to save many more.

The charity's Vaccines for All report claims immunising children is "arguably the greatest health success story of the last century".

It has called on governments in the developing world to prioritise the delivery of vaccines through their national health services. It demanded vaccine manufacturers provide immunisations at the lowest possible prices to ensure the maximum number of children are helped.

The call led to one of the world's biggest pharmaceutical businesses GlaxoSmithKline revealing a change in its business model, that would see the implementation of a tiered pricing structure, with drug prices to be aligned to a country's ability to pay.
