Immigration police swoop on town

Raids have been carried out in Dumfries by the UK Border Agency as part of an investigation into immigration crime, it emerged yesterday.

Officers from the agency were joined by local police in visiting a number of businesses and homes in the town on Thursday. A undisclosed number of people were taken away for questioning.

A spokesman said: "Inquiries are continuing in this criminal investigation, and no further details can be given."
