Ice-cream couple spared jail

A COUPLE who confronted rival ice-cream sellers in a bitter turf war have been spared a jail sentence.

James Moore and Elizabeth McFadyen challenged Alberto and Silvana Puddinu as they served children at their van in a quiet street in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire.

McFadyen told them to "get off their patch" before Moore, 32, jumped into the cab of the van and started punching Mr Puddinu. Meanwhile, McFadyen, 29, kicked the van while screaming abuse at the frightened couple.

Moore admitted assault and McFadyen admitted a breach of the peace. He was ordered to carry out 240 hours' community service and she was fined 250.
