Ian's quick off the mark

IAN DRACUP was happy to show off his race number after becoming the first person to sign up for the Edinburgh Half Marathon's Gold Runner offer.

Mr Dracup, 42, of Currie, is a keen runner, and after paying a one-off fee of 99 will now have a place in the Capital's annual Half Marathon for life.

He was the first of 123 Gold Runners to sign up so far, all of whom will get VIP treatment on the day and a gold medal when they cross the finish line.

The Edinburgh Half Marathon attracted over 4,000 runners in 2010 with a similar number predicted for the 2011 race, taking place on Sunday, April 10.
