'I know Peter Tobin is Bible John', claims victim

A WOMAN who believes she was raped by serial killer Peter Tobin as a teenager has spoken for the first time about the vicious attack, and said she is convinced her attacker was Bible John.

• Tobin has already been convicted of three murders

Patricia Chambers, 57, still carries a scar under her left eye from where her attacker stamped on her face 42 years ago.

She was just 15 when she met the man who introduced himself as Jim McLaughlin at the Barrowland nightclub, in Glasgow.

Tobin, 64, used a number of aliases, some with the surname McLaughlin.

The nightclub was where the victims of the killer known as Bible John met their murderer. His first victim Patricia Docker, 25, had been found murdered nine months earlier, but Ms Chambers never thought she was in any danger when she agreed to meet her attacker on a date.

They went to a couple of bars – one just minutes from St Patrick's Church, where Tobin murdered Polish student Angelika Kluk 38 years later – and she believes he slipped a drug in her drink in the second.

She said: "I don't know how we got there, but the next thing I knew I was being dragged by him, by my hair, up some stairs, into a tenement close."

He stamped on her face. "I think he was trying to knock me out," she said. "He was screaming at me, calling me a 'bitch' and ordering me to lie on the floor," she said. "I remember noticing that I didn't have any shoes and that my clothes had been ripped open. He had a wicked look on his face. He was trying to rape me, but I put up a fight – the fight of my life."

Eventually a passing couple heard her screams and her attacker fled.

Ms Chambers said: "Every time I look in the mirror I think back to what happened. The scar has faded and I can cover it with make-up, but the memory is very real and will never heal."

She added: "I've no doubt in my mind that Bible John and Peter Tobin are the same person. Everything was the same about my attack – the place where Bible John met women and what he did to them. I know it's Tobin."

Bible John murdered Jemima McDonald, 32, and Helen Puttock, 29, in 1969 after meeting them at the Barrowland nightclub.

Tobin was arrested after the death of Ms Kluk in 2006. Police found the bodies of Vicky Hamilton, 15, and Dinah McNicol, 18, buried in the garden of his former home in Margate, Kent, in 2007.

He was convicted of all three murders and will never be released from prison.

Detective Superintendent David Swindle, of Operation Anagram, said: "Our policy is never to discuss the personal details of any victim of a serious sexual crime."
