Northern Constabulary wants to speak to the occupants of a number of vehicles that stopped at the scene, but had left before officers arrived.

A spokesman said: “A number of vehicles which had been at the scene of the collision had left prior to police arrival. It is requested that anyone who may have witnessed the collision contact Northern Constabulary.”

The crash came on the same weekend as the annual Harley-Davidson rally, Thunder in the Glens, which is based at Aviemore. It included the mass ride-out of 1,000 bikers on Saturday.

Police had issued a safety warning to motorists to be aware of motorbikers taking part in the huge rally in the Highlands over the Bank Holiday weekend. The Thunder in the Glens is taking place in the Badenoch and Strathspey areas.

A police spokesman said: “Motorists are advised to be aware that all surrounding roads will be busy with motorcyclists over the entire weekend and that they should be ‘motorcycle aware’ and remain patient.”
