Husband and wife among A9 'carnage' victims

THE three people who were killed in a horrific crash on the A9 in Perthshire on Friday were yesterday named as a husband and wife from central Scotland and a 63 year-old man from North Yorkshire.

They died in a four-car pile-up near Pitlochry, which was described by the emergency services as "a scene of carnage." The accident happened on a stretch of single-carriageway of the busy road, a mile north of the Killiecrankie turn-off.

The driver of a southbound Volvo S80, which crossed the central line, was killed instantly when his vehicle collided with an oncoming Renault Clio and a Vauxhall Astra. Following the initial collision the Renault Clio was thrown into the southbound carriageway, where it collided with a Ford Fiesta heading in the direction of Perth.
