Hunt on after armed thief robs butcher

POLICE are hunting an armed robber who threatened a butcher before making off with more than £1000.

The suspect got into the back office of Aytoun Butchers on Musselburgh High Street where an employee was working and pressed an unknown weapon against their back.

He grabbed a four-figure sum of money before fleeing into the gardens at the back of the Newbigging properties.

The incident happened at 4.55pm on Saturday.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 9ins tall, between 20 and 25 years old, of slim build, with short dark shaved hair. He was wearing a grey hooded top and grey jogging bottoms, with black gloves and a white scarf pulled up over his face.

A police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, and may have seen what happened, to contact us.

"Additionally, we would ask anyone who recognises the description of the suspects to get in touch."
