Hunt for mystery No voter who mowed Holyrood Park

Staff said the greenfingered activist, who struck on Sunday, sprinkled fertiliser on strategic areas of the park so that ‘vote no’ could be seen from overhead.

Police have been contacted, and Historic Scotland say the incident is being taken “very seriously.”

A spokesman said: “Historic Scotland staff are taking measures to neutralise the fertilised grass so as to make the writing unintelligible.

“They regularly patrol the park and will be extra vigilant in trying to prevent similar incidents occurring in future.” No arrests have been made, but both Yes and No campaigners have seen the funny side of it.

A spokesman for Yes Scotland said: “More and more people are realising that the grass will be greener with a Yes vote.”

SNP councillor for Portobello/Craigmillar Michael Bridgman said it was a “bizarre” act, but added: “It’s nice to see that the No campaigners are actually doing something constructive in gardening rather than turning up to actual debates.”

Conservative candidate for Edinburgh Central, Iain McGill, said: “This is great fun and mows a hole through the argument that all creatives are voting Yes!”
