Hunt for man who stole dead dog

POLICE are hunting for a man who stole a woman’s dead Pug dog after his German Sherpherd attacked and killed it in Ayrshire.

A woman and her daughter were walking their dog, a Pug who was around 5 months old, in a remote area of the park close to Bannoch Road. They had walked to that area so that the young dog would not be disturbed or distracted by other dogs whilst being off the leash.

However at some time between 3pm and 3.30pm a dog with the appearance of a black German Shepherd appeared from a wooded area and chased down the Pug, attacking it.

The owner of the German Shepherd then recalled the dog, before walking back through a wooded area. He also removed the Pug from the scene.

He is described as a white man of average height and medium build. At the time he was wearing a khaki green outfit and had the appearance of a fisherman. He was wearing a green hat, green waistcoat, green trousers and his rucksack was also green.

PC Nik Callan of Kilwinning Community Policing Team, said: “Clearly this was a very distressing incident for owners of the Pug. The circumstances are still unclear and we are looking for any information in connection with the incident”

“I would ask that the owner of the black dog with the appearance of a German Shepherd please get in contact with Police. Also I would ask that anyone who was in the area of Eglinton Country Park who may have witnessed this incident please get in contact.”

Chief Inspector Brian Shaw added: “We will have a number of officers at an event at Eglinton Country Park this Sunday (31st May) between 12 and 4pm and they will be taking that opportunity to speak to dog walkers and other members of the public about this incident. I would encourage anyone at Eglinton Country Park this Sunday who has information about this incident to speak with officers.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kilwinning Police office on the non-emergency number 101
