Hunt for couple in OAP car kidnap bid

BAFFLED detectives are investigating an incident in which two people attempted to abduct a pensioner from a Glasgow shopping centre.

The woman, 64, was apparently loading her groceries into her car when she was approached by a man and woman at lunchtime on Friday afternoon

A Strathclyde Police spokesman said the couple attempted to push the woman into her Nissan car, but ran off when she screamed. The victim suffered slight injuries to her face.

The incident happened at 12.30pm at the Forge Shopping Centre in Gallowgate, Glasgow. The two suspects then made off along Biggar Street. They were last seen heading towards Duke Street and disappeared under the railway bridge.

Det Sgt David Scott said: "This was a terrifying experience for the woman and she has been left badly shaken as a result of her ordeal.

"She had just finished shopping within Asda and she made her way back to her car when she was approached by the suspects.

"The attempt to push the woman into her vehicle happened in broad daylight and it is vital we trace the suspects before they strike again."

Scott said police were studying CCTV footage and speaking to shop staff to find out the suspects' moves before and after the alleged incident.

The male suspect is described as white, 5ft 10in, clean-shaven but of untidy appearance. He was wearing a sunhat and a dark coloured long-sleeve top.

His female companion is also white with an obvious suntan, of slim build with dark hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a pink baseball hat and a dark zipper.

Both suspects were said to be in their thirties.
