Hundreds mourn mother found frozen to death

HUNDREDS of mourners have paid their last respects to a mother who was found frozen to death outside a church.

Elizabeth Hill, 34, was wearing just her underwear when she was discovered outside St John's Parish Church in Carluke, Lanarkshire, last month.

On Saturday the town came to a standstill as 250 mourners packed St Andrew's Parish Church to pay their final respects. Floral tributes lined the entrance.

Ms Hill's children, Shannon, 11, and Darrell, seven, paid tribute to their mother with drawings in the order of service, writing: "I love you, I so dearly do. I really miss you, I'd rather have you here but … RIP mum, I love you."

Mourners listened to Elizabeth's favourite Boyzone songs, including If Tomorrow Never Comes, as the family arrived at the small church with the coffin dressed in a bouquet of pink flowers. The Rev Helen Jamieson described Elizabeth as a "wonderful daughter" and a "devoted mum" during the emotional service.
