Hundreds join MP's funeral

HUNDREDS of mourners turned out yesterday for the funeral of an MP who died of a heart attack on Boxing Day.

David Taylor, MP for North Leicestershire, was laid to rest after a service at St John the Baptist Church in his home village of Heather, Leicestershire.

The 63-year-old collapsed while walking with his family at Calke Abbey in Derbyshire on Boxing Day. He was taken to the Queen's Hospital in Burton upon Trent but died a short time later.

Speakers were set up outside the small church to allow mourners, believed to have included senior politicians, to hear the service. Afterwards, a private burial was held in the nearby cemetery.
