Housing plan unveiled for water works

THE soon-to-be redundant Fairmilehead water works could be sold off for housing under plans revealed this week by Scottish Water.

The under-construction 10 million Glencorse treatment plant is due to replace Fairmilehead in 2011, rendering the existing plant surplus to requirements.

Scottish Water plans to retain the existing office building but use the rest of the site for housing.

The plans are still in the early stages so the company has yet to reveal the number or type of houses, or road layout and landscaping.

Scottish Water has now begun a 12-week consultation to collate the views of the public and interested parties before it submits its plans to the council.

A public exhibition to learn more about the proposal for Fairmilehead will be held on October 8 at Fairmilehead Parish Church.
