Hours to live: CCTV of last night out

Dean Geary was found by a passer-by on the A811 near Drymen in the early hours on Sunday, 7 February.

The 19-year-old, who was last seen in Glasgow enjoying a night out with friends, died of severe head injuries.

Mr Geary, from Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, was in Glasgow city centre shortly after 3am when he is thought to have got into what he believed was a taxi.

The CCTV pictures show Mr Geary arriving in Glasgow and making his way from George Square to Renfield Street, a few hundred yards away.

Detective Chief Inspector Willie Cravens, of Central Scotland Police, said: "We have him on CCTV as he makes his way from the George Square area to Renfield Street.

"We have managed to follow him on CCTV until 3:22am, when he is seen to walking alone along Renfield Street at its junction with Sauchiehall Street towards the area of Lauders and Walkabout pubs.

"We are keen to speak to anybody who may remember seeing Dean in this area. He may have stuck out as he was walking on his own and was often talking on his mobile.

"We are appealing for anybody who recalls seeing Dean in the Renfield Street area around 3:20am or who may have seen him shortly after that time in the surrounding streets.

"He was wearing a distinctive black zipper G-Star Raw cardigan with epaulets and white writing above a patch pocket on the left breast."

Officers from Central Scotland Police were also in Glasgow city centre during the early hours of Sunday morning questioning taxi drivers and members of the public.

DCI Cravens said: "We spoke to a number of taxi drivers and we are following several lines of inquiry.

"We are speaking to people to see if they remember seeing Dean. Somebody has given him a lift and we need to find the person who did."

Mr Geary worked as an administrator at the Royal Naval Armaments Depot at Coulport.

Central Scotland Police believe he may have been the victim of a hit and run, or assaulted, and hope the images will "jog somebody's memory" and help them solve the mystery.

Police are continuing efforts to establish how he travelled between Glasgow city centre and the place where his body was discovered, which is about eight miles from his family home.

Mr Geary was last seen by his friends in the Tattoo nightclub in Queen Street, Glasgow, at about 1am.

A two-figure sum of cash was withdrawn from his bank account at about 3am – from a cash machine near the Europa Bar, by Queen Street railway station in West George Street.

About half an hour later, he phoned a friend to say that he was in a taxi.
