Hotels leave English counterparts trailing

HOTELS in Edinburgh and Glasgow are performing better than the sector in England.

Surveying firm Graham & Sibbald said that occupancy rates are continuing to show year-on-year rises, in contrast to many cities in England and Wales.

Occupancy rates also remain higher in Scotland.

Scottish hotels enjoyed an overall occupancy rate of 82.5 per cent in September, up from 78.7 per cent in the same month last year.

The occupancy rate in September for England was 77.6 per cent and in Wales 77.5 per cent, and 78.2 per cent in the UK as a whole.

Both Glasgow and Edinburgh are a achieving room occupancy rates of over 80 per cent in many months, with hotels in Aberdeen now pushing beyond 75 per cent.
