Hoteliers back City Garden Project

LEADING hoteliers in the North east of Scotland have pledged their support for the divisive plans to transform Aberdeen Union Terrace Gardens.

The Aberdeen City and Shire Hotels Association yesterday added its backing to the City Garden Project, claiming the £140 million transformational scheme will attract more tourists to the area.

Stephen Gow, the chairman of the association, said the redevelopment plans could bring more people, more hotel brands and new air routes to Aberdeen, and also position the city as a real contender for the valuable weekend leisure market.

He said: “We see the City Garden Project as a major benefit to the city and can see no downsides at all to this iconic development. Over the next few years there will be more cities with compelling reasons for both leisure and business tourists to visit.”
