Hopes fade for Scots student swept away off Irish coast

FEARS were growing last night for a Scottish student who was washed into the sea off the Irish coast on Saturday.

Craig McIntyre, 19, is feared dead after he plunged into the Atlantic Ocean while on holiday in County Cork.

Irish authorities were last night continuing to search, but hopes were fading for the third-year Edinburgh University language student.

It is understood Mr McIntyre was taking time away from studying during a foreign placement in Germany to make the trip to Ireland with friends.

His mother Morag and father David were last night thought to be in Ireland and there was nobody at the family home in the Colinton area of Edinburgh.

Last night, a friend said: "Obviously everyone is worried about him."

Mr McIntyre is thought to have been walking along the shore near Baltimore when he was hit by a wave and carried into the water.
