Honorary degree for former Moderator Lorna Hood

FORMER CHURCH of Scotland Moderator Lorna Hood will be honoured by Glasgow University today.

The Very Reverend Lorna Hood, who chaired the General Assembly in 2013, has been awarded the Doctor of Divinity as part of the university’s winter graduation programme.

She joins Karyn McCluskey, co-director of Police Scotland’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), who will receive the Doctor of the University.

Ms McCluskey established the VRU with colleague John Carnochan in 2005, within what was then Strathclyde Police.

The university will also honour Parveen Kumar, Professor of Medicine and Education at London’s St Bartholomew’s hospital, and Lord Patrick Stewart Hodge, a Justice of the UK’s Supreme Court.

Glasgow vice-principal Professor John Briggs said it was a privilege to honour the figures.

“All are recognised as leaders both within their own fields of expertise, and beyond,” he said.

The honorary degrees will be awarded at ceremonies taking place this week at the university’s Bute Hall.
