Homes left in the dark

AROUND 2000 homes across Leith were left with no power last night after a fault occurred in ScottishPower's high-voltage network.

The lights went out just after 11pm, with the electricity supply fully restored in more than half of homes by around 12.20am, and the rest following at 12.50am.

Householders had reported experiencing intermittent breaks in their power supply the previous evening.

ScottishPower said engineers were on scene as quickly as possible to rectify the problem, which was caused by a cable fault in the area, and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Police received a number of calls about the power cut.
