Homes hit by power cut

BETWEEN 300 and 400 homes and businesses in the Capital were hit by a power cut caused by a fault at a substation.

ScottishPower said while the supply to some properties may have only been interrupted for seconds, others were left without power for up to 20 minutes.

The fault occurred at a substation in the Canonmills area at around 12.20pm on Thursday. One of the businesses affected briefly was Standard Life.

A spokesman for Standard Life said that electricity had gone off a “extremely short” time before back-up systems kicked in and work was not interrupted.
