Homes bid is rejected

A HOUSEBUILDER has been refused permission to build on a Dreghorn greenfield site following more than 350 objections from the local community.

Taylor Wimpey had applied to build 75 new homes near Dreghorn Loan and Laverockdale Crescent.

Objectors, including the Colinton Amenity Association, the Cockburn Association and the Edinburgh and Lothians Greenbelt Network, argued that there was no need for new homes.

They argued that the development would adversely affect wildlife and habitats, in particular protected species including badgers, and increase the potential for road accidents and put pressure on local schools.

Refusing the application, council head of planning John Bury said: "The proposal is contrary to the Edinburgh and the Lothians Structure Plan Policy as there is a presumption against new housing development on greenfield sites."
