Homeless World Cup teams joined by Rangers and Celtic legends

Old Firm stars Mark Hateley and Bobby Petta joined Scotland's men and women's Homeless World Cup teams at their final training session before kick off in Glasgow this Sunday.

The teams, who are selected, coached and managed by social enterprise Street Soccer Scotland, will be joined for the week long tournament by over 500 players from 51 different countries.

Scotland Homeless World Cup men’s team have enjoyed success at the tournament that the professionals could only dream of, winning in Denmark in 2007 and again in Paris in 2011.

The women’s team are hoping to build on their impressive finish of 5th in 2011 and 7th in Amsterdam last year.

The Homeless World Cup will take place in Glasgow this Sunday.

Ally Dawson, manager of Team Scotland, said “The Homeless World Cup is a very special event for everyone involved and being host nation brings an added honour. The men’s and women’s squads have been training very hard over recent weeks in preparation for the start of the tournament.”

He praised the appearance of the two Old Firm legends explaining that “Having Mark and Bobby here to give them some final bits of advice is fantastic.”

Street Soccer Scotland help over 1000 disadvantaged adults and young people each week through provision of football related personal development courses. Established in 2009 by David Duke, once homeless himself, the organisation leads the involvement of sport in social change, gaining support from Sir Alex Ferguson and organisations including RBS and Edinburgh Airport.
