Home delivery: Carol Smillie welcomes eight additions to family

SHE has become a household name through her roles as a television presenter, model, actress and even author.

But now Carol Smillie she can add another talent to her list - after taking on the role of midwife for her family's pet dog.

She was on hand as her black Labrador, Jess, gave birth to a litter of eight puppies, and enrolled the help of her three children Jodie, 11, Robbie, 13, (both pictured,) and Christie, 15, as veterinary nurses.

Smillie, 48, of Glasgow, said: "Our pet dog Jess has been a very clever girl.

"Her becoming a mother was absolutely by design - with our vet's dog. I thought that if the vet's dog was the father, then he might keep me right, but in the end we did most of it ourselves.

"I was ready with my stethoscope and my rubber gloves - but Jess was fantastic. The kids even helped deliver them. It was one of the best experiences for us as a family."

Smillie said an early scan suggested her dog may have been carrying six puppies, but they were delighted when she gave birth to a litter of eight.
