Holyrood addresses mental health stigma

REDUCING the stigma surrounding mental health issues was the subject of a debate at the Scottish Parliament launched by the See Me campaign.

It followed a survey which showed a series of damning statistics about mental health. The research found a quarter of employers would reject a job application on the basis of a mental health history, while more than half the people surveyed said they wouldn't want to share a flat with someone who had a history of such problems.

Labour health spokeswoman Jackie Baillie said: "We know that one-in-four of us will suffer a mental illness at some time, but too often this leads to stigma and discrimination."
