Holy weekend pilgrimage

JOHN and Kreswin Smith from Buckinghamshire join more than 60 other walkers yesterday on the final leg of the annual Northern Cross pilgrimage to Holy Island.

Young and old mark the Easter celebrations each year by trekking around 100 miles through the Borders and Northumberland to the island of Lindisfarne off the north-east coast.

Pilgrims take it in turns to carry the cross along the way.
