Holidaying Scot accused of sexual assault in Blackpool

A SCOT on a trip to Blackpool allegedly sexually assaulted a sleeping woman in a hotel room.

The woman woke up to find Denis Carr on top of her and some of her clothing removed, it has been claimed.

A jury has heard that when she challenged him, he replied by saying he thought she had been enjoying it a minute ago.

Carr, 60, of Balmoral Avenue, Dumfries has gone on trial at Preston Crown Court, where he denies two charges of sexual assault.

The case relates to his stay at the Queens Hotel, Blackpool last September.

Richard Haworth, prosecuting, said the 30-year-old woman had fallen asleep, but woke to find the defendant on top of her. She had no clothes on her bottom half, though she had gone to bed wearing pyjamas and underwear. She accused Carr, saying "you raped me when I was sleeping", Mr Haworth said.

"He told her to stop crying and quieten down."

Carr admitted he had touched the woman and removed her clothing, but claimed she had moaned, leading him to believe she was consenting.

The trial continues.
