Holding on for Christmas delivery

DALE Hutton joked with the midwife at St John's Hospital in Livingston that his partner Linda Crookston could delay giving birth until Christmas Day.

And it seems baby Mason Duncan Hutton agreed. Born at 12:30am on Christmas Day, and weighing 7lb 5oz, he was the first baby to arrive in the Lothians.

Mason is also the couple's first child together, although they have three other sons between them – Callum, 17, Ryan, 15, and another Ryan, nine. The new arrival was home in Bathgate by 1pm on Saturday and is doing well, along with his mother.

Mr Hutton, 31, said: "It was the ultimate Christmas present and it all went smoothly. We went in about 6:30pm and we were having a joke, saying Linda had to hold on until midnight.

"It's been non-stop with family since then."

Later on Christmas Day, Lewis Cockburn was born to parents Victoria McAlpine and Kevin Cockburn at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at 1:09am.

Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital had its first new arrival at 2:30am, with Laura Calvert, and Dundee's first delivery was Logan Robertson, who arrived a week early as a surprise present.
