Hockey stick cancer hazard

PEOPLE who build hockey sticks and bicycle frames could be at risk from hazardous tiny fibres used to strengthen the products.

A study by Edinburgh University has highlighted the danger of the carbon nanotubes, which could cause cancer in the lining of the lung.

Prof Ken Donaldson, chair of respiratory toxicology at the university, said: "This research shows there is a potential hazard in the manufacture of certain types of carbon nanotubes."
