HIV infection rates falling

RATES of HIV across the Lothians are continuing to drop, according to latest figures.

The figures for 2009 show a significant drop in the number of people who caught the infection in that timeframe.

The 79 who contracted HIV in the Lothians was the lowest number since 2002, and a drop of 40 from the previous year, Health Protection Scotland said.

The Evening News reported last year how initial data suggested the trend was downward, and these latest, more comprehensive statistics confirm that.
